Sokratis Samaras


Deputy Mayor of Urban Planning, Municipality of Thermi

Sokratis Samaras has served as the President of the Board of Directors of the Organization for Local Development, ANATOLIKI S.A., since July 2015.

He was born and raised in Trilofo, Thessaloniki.

He graduated from the 5th High School of Thessaloniki and studied Civil Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Milan. He has been an active member of the Association of Architects of Thessaloniki, the Hellenic Union of Structural Engineers, and the Technical Chamber of Greece since 1986.

His main activity is the design and the construction of building projects.

In November 2010, he was elected as a Municipal Councilor in the Municipality of Thermi for the first time and since then he served as Deputy Mayor for Environment, Greenery, and Civil Protection, Deputy Mayor for Environment and Civil Protection, Deputy Mayor for Clean-Recycling, Chairman of the Quality of Life Committee, representative of the Regional Unit of Thessaloniki in the Coordinating Body of Civil Protection (SOEP), representative of the Central Union of Municipalities and Communities of Greece (KEDE) in the Committees of Works Competitions of “Egnatia Odos S.A.”, representative in the committee for the acceptance of works in the Municipality, representative in the environmental control team (KEPPE), Vice-Chairman of the Council of Immigration Integration, member of the Editorial Committee of the newspaper “Thermis Dromena”, and member of the committee for determining the unit price due to inclusion in the City Plan.

He has been the administrator, on behalf of the Municipality of Thermi, of the European Territorial Cooperation program GREECE-BULGARIA (2001-2013) on “Open protocols and tools for the education and training of volunteer organizations in the field of civil protection and disaster management,” with partners the Municipality of Komotini, the Center for Research and Technological Development, the Management Body of the National Forest Park Dadia-Lefkimi-Soufli, the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, and the Municipality of Zlatograd, Bulgaria.

Today, he is the Deputy Mayor of Urban Planning of the Municipality.

He is married to Despina Kofidou, and a father of three children, Maria, Christos, and Eirini.
