The 5th and final meeting of the European project LIFE SMART was concluded with great success. Held on March 10 and 11, 2026, in Rome, Italy, the meeting marked the completion of a significant initiative for the energy reinforcement of local government. The event took place at Villa Altieri, hosted by the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital (CMRC) – a partner of the project.
ANATOLIKI S.A. was represented by Ms. Vasiliki Papadopoulou, General Director and project coordinator, Mr. Sokratis Samaras, Chairman of ANATOLIKI S.A., Ms. Sofia Astriti, Director of Administrative and Financial Management, and Ms. Asimina Palkopoulou, Director of Technical Services. They were joined by Ms. Kyriaki Tsouralaki and Mr. Nikolaos Avgerinos, representing the Municipalities of Volvi and Aristotle, respectively.
The first day was dedicated to presenting the results of the LIFE SMART project and exchanging experiences among small municipalities from Greece, Italy, France, Spain, and Portugal. The event highlighted the challenges and prospects of the energy transition in local government. With the participation of representatives from the European Commission (CINEA), best practices and successful examples from other related European projects were presented. The afternoon session included a round table discussion with institutional bodies, aimed at creating a framework to facilitate municipalities in planning and implementing their strategy for climate neutrality.
The second day focused on the internal evaluation and closing of the project by the partner consortium. Under the coordination of Ms. Vasiliki Papadopoulou, the Final Report and the analysis of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) were presented, project deliverables were reviewed, and final conclusions and the impact of the actions were discussed. The two-day event concluded with a visit to the Metropolitan Urban Centre of Rome, offering participants the opportunity to see firsthand model examples of urban development and planning.
The LIFE SMART project, which began in October 2023 with the primary goal of strengthening the technical and organizational capacity of 22 small municipalities in 5 countries (Greece, Italy, France, Spain, and Portugal), was co-funded by the European Union, reaffirming the commitment to a fair and green transition for all citizens, regardless of the size of their region.
