On November 13, 2024, an informational meeting was held at the Council Hall of the Municipality of Kalamaria, with the participation of media representatives, municipal employees, and citizens, as part of the project “Cooperation for the Design and Monitoring of Sustainable Energy and Climate Change Actions in the Black Sea Basin” (Step2CleanPlan).
The event was opened by Ms. Eleftheria Zevgara from the Autonomous Department of Planning and Development of the Municipality of Kalamaria, who outlined the objectives of the meeting. Greetings were delivered by the Mayor of Kalamaria, Chrysa Arapoglou, and the Deputy Mayors: Nikos Misirlis (Environment), Mary Tsiampidou (Cleaning), and Kostas Zacharias (Finance).
Ms. Vaso Papadopoulou, Director of Planning and Management of European Programs at ANATOLIKI S.A. and project leader, along with ANATOLIKI S.A. staff, presented the actions and expected results of the Step2CleanPlan project, focusing on sustainability and adaptation to climate change.
Following the presentation, a discussion took place, during which the Mayor and the Deputy Mayors highlighted the municipality’s needs, identifying areas that require further enhancement. Through this discussion, areas of overlap and potential collaboration were identified, which could be leveraged within the project’s actions. This cooperation is expected to significantly contribute to addressing local challenges and strengthening initiatives for sustainable development and adaptation to climate change.
It’s worth mentioning that on November 12-13, world leaders gathered in Baku, Azerbaijan, for the World Leaders’ Summit on Climate Action, which marked the launch of the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29). The Step2CleanPlan project is being implemented with co-financing from the European Union’s Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Program, with the participation of the Municipality of Kalamaria, the Municipality of Uzunköprü from Turkey, and the Municipalities of Varna and Burgas from Bulgaria.
